What is this?

Bill 124 - Came into law - July 1, 2005

Requires all designers to pass the OBC exams, be registered with the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and have professional liability insurance.

Each designer must pass with a minimum of 70% on EACH exam to qualify, in order to become a licensed designer. Once you receive your BCIN number you still can not sign off on drawings unless you have purchased liability insurance.

How it got started

Since 2000, the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing started to look at how to streamline the building permit process in Ontario.

During this process, it was found that a great amount of time was spent doing house plan reviews and examinations before any building department could issue a permit.

Many house plans were rejected for permit due to poor design, drafting, and building
code compliance.

Reason was... many house plans were done by people with little skills and little knowledge
of the code. This created long delays at Building Departments across Ontario for issuing permits.

We are talented and experienced Licensed Home Designers, CAD Operators, Artists with
over 18 years experience in alliance with Engineers and Surveyors.

Our extensive education and training covers the many aspects of building design such as Architectural, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Interiors, Building Sciences,
Ontario Building Codes, and Surveying.

Our knowledge and understanding of building codes and building structures assures that not only our blueprints are accurately designed and complete, but that they are accepted and approved by Building Departments.

Nauta Home Designs has college graduates who have a diploma in Construction Engineering Technology - Architecture who become licensed designers to ensure quality design, accurate drafting, and building code practices.
